There’s more.

Remember last week’s story about Dinari?

After Dinari laid his suffering bare, Ja’Miah* (15) followed in his footsteps.

Believe it or not, she is also a second-generation Peace (Of The City) kid. Her Mom, Olivia, and Olivia’s three older brothers all spent a full decade growing up at POTC.

In the compelling quiet after Dinari spoke, she said, “My dad was killed, too. Shot to death in his car a few years ago. I loved him.”

I knew this about Ja’Miah’s father as I am still in touch with her mother and all her uncles, but Ja’Miah had never shared it with anyone.

There we were, sitting in the Light Of The World that Dinari’s vulnerability ushered in, comforting Ja’Miah’s fatherlessness too. The next week, Ja’Miah found me at my desk when she arrived at Peace and asked, “Do you want to read this?” She handed me a typed, one-page essay. It was about the tragic loss of her dad and entitled, “Trust In God.”
