LITERACY FOR ALL
Literacy For All at Peace of the City is an opportunity for children reading below grade level to receive 1:1 and small-group literacy intervention services. Through SBRR methods, the program targets the “five pillars” of reading: phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, in addition to writing. SRA’s Corrective Reading, a Writing Workshop based on the 6-Traits, and Literature Circles are all incorporated into instruction each week for a balanced program of direct, explicit, systematic phonics instruction and authentic reading and writing experiences. There is regular progress-monitoring so the program can be tailored to the individual needs of each student.

PEACE CLUB
Peace Club (originally Homework Club) is our foundation program, over 28 years in existence and logging over 700 hours of time with our kids in a year. Homework Club is a holistic after-school stop for children of the West Side…basing programs on what every child needs–love, structure, playtime, academic support, attentive adults, creative exploration and more and more LOVE!

TEEN EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMS
Teen Empowerment programming at POTC works cooperatively to wrap around our youth through enriching programming, arts activities, open gym and basketball, field trips, free time and lots of mentoring time spent with our staff. When teens walk through our doors they receive, as one of our directors called it, “a serious multivitamin, covering all teen needs four days a week!” Hours are spent going over homework and grades, talking through critical issues at home and at school (advocacy) and mentoring teens through the very real circumstances of their lives.
